What is the best material for a competitive swimsuit? Polyester or lycra? A very common question in our store! That is like asking if you want spaghetti noodles or elbow macaroni noodles. It just depends on what you prefer and how you plan to use the suit. Is the longevity of the suit the most important factor? Or, is the feel of the fabric what you look for? Do you want to wear the suit for practice or competition? Are you looking for the least expensive option? Do you want a custom dyed or sublimated suit?

You should ask yourself all of these questions before you decide on the fabric!!

Maybe the easiest way to answer this question is to just list the facts about polyester and lycra suits.

Polyester is a great fabric for practice suits. They are: Chlorine Resistant, Colorfast, Resist bagging - Stretches less than lycra, Less susceptible to wear and tear, Lasts longer than lycra, Resistant to UV light, Durable and easy to care for, Can be sublimated making them great for custom team suits.

Lycra is great for comfort and is typically slicker and a faster material They are: Tighter fitting - You will glide through the water more efficiently and can create compression in the right areas for better performance, Lighter weight than most polyester, Softer and more comfortable, Dries quicker than polyester, Has better stretch than most polyester, Slick texture, Usually less expensive than polyester.

We carry both options in our store as well as tech suits. You can call or come in and we are more than happy to help you find the perfect style and fit for your needs.
